RJ Young Company has been committed to supporting charities and other organizations in the community that positively impact those communities. RJ Young, especially when giving back, wants to help people in the most fundamental of needs such as: food, clothing, and shelter. When you look at the list below, you will see that RJ Young has been able to accomplish those goals.

This year, RJ Young will continue its role as a good corporate citizen and look for more ways to improve the lives of the people in Middle Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, North Alabama, North Georgia, and Mississippi.

Below are just some of the contributions of time, money, and equipment that RJ Young and its employees have made since 2002:

 

2005

Habitat for Humanity
Once again the RJ Young Company has provided the materials and labor necessary to build a Habitat home.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat has built more than 175,000 houses around the world, providing safe, decent, affordable shelter for more than 900,000 people.

Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest Food Bank is the nation's largest charitable hunger-relief organization with a Network of more than 200 regional member food banks and food rescue programs. Here in Nashville, not only have we donated monetary gifts, but after our annual company meeting we donated two hours of time to Second Harvest, which led to over 24,000 pounds of food that we sorted, packed, or boxed for needy families. RJ Young employees also donated over 1,500 pounds of food on their own.

Special Olympics
Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Special Olympics offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round training and competition in 26 Olympic-type summer and winter sports. There is no charge to participate in Special Olympics.

 

American Heart & Stroke Association
The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

RJ Young employees also participate with the Heart Walk every year. The employees raise money by themselves and then participate in the walk.

RJ Young also started another event called “The Pumpkin Run”. This event was established in memory of Parker Crunk, the late brother of our Chairman of the Board, John Crunk. All proceeds from this event go to the American Heart & Stroke Association. This is just another way the RJ Young gives back to the community.

 

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

At RJ Young every year we have blood drives at our locations so that we can help the blood supply level in our communities. Our employees are not the only ones to participate. Since we host the blood drive in our buildings, people from around the community are able to come and give blood too.

 

St. Luke’s Community House
St. Luke’s Community House is based in West Nashville and they are working to improve the lives of the people that live in their community. They provide food to those that cannot afford it, they repair homes in the neighborhood, they provide Christmas for families that cannot afford Christmas.

These are just an small example of the community outreach that is performed by St. Luke’s. RJ Young employees provide gifts every Christmas for families that cannot have one. RJ Young knows that Christmas is not about receiving but about giving.

 

CADAS
CADAS, The Council for Alcohol & Drug Abuse Services, was founded in 1964. The CADAS mission is to deliver the highest quality treatment, prevention, and educational services to the chemically dependent, their families, and the community at large.

 

United Way
The mission of United Way is to improve people's lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities.

United Ways across the country activate community resources to make the greatest possible human impact. The United Way system includes approximately 1,400 community-based United Way organizations. Each is independent, separately incorporated and governed by local volunteers.

As community leaders, United Ways address the most critical local issues and mobilize resources beyond the dollars that are pledged through their fund-raising efforts. Community partners often include schools, government policy makers, businesses, organized labor, financial institutions, voluntary and neighborhood associations, community development corporations and the faith community.

RJ Young helps support the United Way through many different avenues.

 

Boys & Girls Club
The Boys & Girls Club of America was established to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. A Boys & Girls Club provides a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, hope, and opportunity.

 

The Jason Foundation
The Jason Foundation is an organization devited to stopping teen suicide. Teen Suicide ranks as one of the leading causes of death for teenagers. The Jason Foundation was set up by Clark Flatt, who started the organization after his son Jason committed suicide. The Jason Foundation’s mission is to provide information, tools, resources to students, educators/youth workers, and parents that will enable early detection of at-risk behavior and guide them to local help resources.

 

100 Black Men of America
100 Black Men of America, Inc is committed to the intellectual development of youth and the economic empowerment of the African American community based on the following precepts: respect for family, spirituality, justice, and integrity.

 

Rape and Sexual Abuse Center
The Rape & Sexual Abuse Center is one of the most advanced agencies in the country for treating the survivors of sexual assault and their families. Clients include men, women and children of all ages and backgrounds.

 

Mental Health Cooperative
The Mental Health Cooperative is a mental health agency that incorporates intensive case management, psychiatric/clinic services and 24-hour emergency psychiatric services into an integrated system of care. Our services assist children and adults with serious mental illness to live successful and satisfying lives in the community and recover from the devastating effects of the illness.

 

2004

Jubilee Singers/Fisk University
They are the first internationally acclaimed group of African-American musicians who attained first recognition, then fame, and along the way, financed their school.

Volunteer Behavioral Health Services
Not-for-profit Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) dedicated to high-quality community-based care and treatment serving the needs of the mentally ill and chemically dependent citizens of Tennessee regardless of their ability to pay.

 

Rape and Sexual Abuse Center
The Rape & Sexual Abuse Center is one of the most advanced agencies in the country for treating the survivors of sexual assault and their families. Clients include men, women and children of all ages and backgrounds.

 

Martha O’Bryan Center – 3 years on the board
Martha O'Bryan Center, a Christian outreach ministry located in the James A. Cayce Homes, supports and empowers individuals and families in need living in East Nashville and the surrounding community to attain greater levels of well-being and self-reliance, and provides opportunities for people to respond to God's love by giving through service. The following statistics, from MDHA, paint a picture of many of the families who live here and turn to Martha O'Bryan Center for help:

  • 1,856 residents live in the Cayce Homes, making it Nashville’s largest public housing development.
  • 84% of the total population is African-American.
  • The average annual net income is $4,306 – a decrease of $472 from 2001.
  • Women head 88% of the homes and children represent 56% of the total population of Cayce.
  • The average family has three members -- a mother and two children.
  • 50% of the persons age 25 and up within one mile of Martha O'Bryan Center do not have a high school education.

2003

Outlook Nashville
In 1957, a group of individuals who shared concerns about the lack of social opportunities for people with disabilities began forming a plan, a call to action combining the skills and compassion of people both with and without handicaps. The result was Outlook Nashville, an agency dedicated to addressing and resolving those concerns. As the agency grew, so did its mission. Outlook Nashville now offers innovative, quality services to more than 120 children and adults and their families across Middle Tennessee and is one of the area's principal providers for people with severe developmental disabilities.

Randy Glover Memorial/ALS Central Tennessee
The ALS Association, Central Tennessee Chapter is a non-profit organization solely focused on providing comprehensive resources to ALS patients and their families in a community setting. We are dedicated to helping patients face this devastating, fatal disease with dignity and a positive spirit. Our chapter provides leadership in raising awareness, patient advocacy and funding research to find a cure for ALS.
